Essential Tips to Prevent Cancer Development

From breast cancer, lung cancer, skin cancer, pancreatic cancer, and colon cancer, among others, everyone needs to be wary. Knowing this, you can do things to prevent or reduce your risk of cancer. Read on:

1. Avoid Smoking

Tobacco use, in any form, sets you on a collision path with cancer. Various forms of lung, liver, mouth, pancreatic, bladder, and kidney cancer have been related to smoking. In addition, tobacco chewing has been related to mouth and pancreas cancers. Even for those who don’t smoke, exposure to secondhand smoke may raise the risk of lung cancer.

2. Eat Healthily

Making smart choices when buying food and during meals won’t ensure cancer prevention, but lower your risk. Consider the following suggestions:

  • Consume a variety of fruits and vegetables. Fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based foods, such as whole grains and legumes, should form the foundation of your diet.
  • Maintain a healthy body mass index (BMI). Go for fewer high-calorie foods, such as refined sugars and animal fat, to lose weight and become leaner.
  • If you must consume alcohol, do it in moderation.
  • Limit your intake of processed meats.

3. Maintain a Healthy Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight may reduce the incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung, colon, and kidney. Physical activity is also important. Physical exercise may reduce your risk of breast cancer and colon cancer on its own, in addition to helping you regulate your weight.

4. Avoid Direct Sun Exposure

UV rays from the sun are known to affect the skin and potentially cause skin cancer. You can avoid this by staying away from the midday sun (10 am to 4 pm) when the song is strongest. Also, even on overcast days, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Apply sunscreen more often if you’re swimming or sweating heavily.

 5. Get vaccinated

Cancer prevention involves protection from infections such as Hepatitis B and Human papillomavirus (HPV). Hepatitis B might raise your chances of getting liver cancer. Therefore, a hepatitis B vaccination is recommended for some persons who are at a high risk of contracting the disease. The same applies to HPV, which can lead to genital cancer if not treated.
